Walmart may move into online grocery delivery services, compete with Fresh Direct home-delivery

Walmart is branching out into the online grocery delivery service with plans to launch online service in San Jose, Calif., a source told Bloomberg News.

The service, internally dubbed "Project Titan," hasn't yet been approved and may not happen, said the insider.

But if it goes forward and is expanded, Walmart would become a direct competitor to existing Internet grocers like Peapod and Amazon Fresh.

In New York, the main warehouse-to-home delivery service is Fresh Direct. Walmart is trying to open its first superstore in the city.
