E. coli sickens eight in France; sprouts suspected

6/28/2011 1:20:47 AM

The same strain of E. coli blamed for 46 deaths in Germany now appears to be affecting people in France, CNN is reporting.

Eight people have been sickened and they have been taken to two hospitals in Bordeaux, France, CNN reports.

Seven of the victims have been interviewed by French officials and have reported that they took part in a recent open house at a children's recreation center. Six of them ate sprouts during the visit, according to CNN.

Sprouts were the culprit in the Germany outbreak.

In this instance, a tracing study by French officials showed that the sprout seeds originated from a British supplier. French officials have asked distributors to immediately stop marketing the product.
